Looking for a fun way to spend time with the family? Pile everyone into the minivan and hit the road to see one or more of these funky and truly American attractions. It might be hard to decide which one of these crazy destinations your family needs to see first.

All wrapped up and no place to go. The heart of America seems to have a wide range of funky attractions. Feast your eyes upon the world’s largest ball of twine in Cawker City, Kansas. Visitors are welcome to add to the collection, making it one large and constantly growing ball of fun.

Redefining the superfood. The world’s largest pecan is constructed from concrete and can be found in Brunswick, Missouri. The pecan is this town’s nut of choice for good reason. Pecans orchards and stands are plentiful around here, but the James Pecan Farm boasts the biggest by a long shot.

Ho, ho, ho. Perhaps you enjoy your nutritious veggies in a can with a certain green giant on it? Head over to Blue Earth, Minnesota and gaze upon the Jolly Green Giant who stands 55 feet tall. Constructed to signify the completion of I-90 in 1978, it’s a popular tourist attraction.

Less of a mystery, but still pretty original. In Alliance, Nebraska you will discover Carhenge, an homage to the ancient and mysterious Stonehenge in England. It’s aptly named, as farmer Jim Reinders replicated the original’s giant stones in 1987 by 38 cars painted gray. Although originally thought a bit of an eyesore, citizens of Alliance now proudly claim Carhenge as their own.

Go ahead, deface a Caddy. Head Southwest for another automotive-related attraction. In Amarillo, Texas along historic Route 66, ten Cadillacs are buried partway in the earth at Cadillac Ranch. It was created by Stanley Marsh in 1973. The graffiti is fun to explore and you can join in the artistic fun by participating. Visitors are encouraged to add their own unique artistic mark for posterity.

There are lots of fun things you can do on the road. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience check out some of these fun roadside oddities.
